Guillaume Toumanian: Inwardness
October 16 – November 4, 2026
The Curator Lab at 529 Arts
The Curator Lab at 529 Arts is pleased to welcome Inwardness, a solo exhibition by French artist Guillaume Toumanian, curated by Laura de Pontcharra, director of Lazarew – de Pontcharra in Paris.
Born in Marseille in 1974 and based in Paris, Toumanian has devoted his practice to painting, developing a distinctive visual language through what he describes as “landscapes of memory.” His atmospheric works exist between the real and imagined, using landscape as a means of exploring memory, emotion and our perception of place.
Toumanian's connection to memory and place has deep roots in his practice. A 2005 journey to Armenia, the land of his family's origins, had a profound influence on the memory-infused paintings that would become central to his work. His career has since included exhibitions and residencies internationally, three solo exhibitions with Galerie Lazarew – de Pontcharra, participation in Immortelle: The Vitality of Young French Figurative Painting at MO.CO Montpellier, and a major solo exhibition at Chapelle des Cordeliers in Toulouse coinciding with the publication of his first monograph.
For Inwardness, Toumanian brings this approach to The Curator Lab through a selection of recent works that reconsider landscape painting through a distinctly contemporary lens. As curator Laura de Pontcharra describes it, his work sits at the intersection of traditional technique and a contemporary vision of landscape, engaging principally with questions of memory and emotion.

De Buck Gallery | September Curator Lab
September 3 - October 4, 2026
De Buck Gallery returns to a physical space in the heart of Chelsea with its first pop-up gallery, taking residence at The Curator Lab throughout September.
The month-long program will feature new work by Gommaar Gilliams, Roger Raveel, and Devan Shimoyama, alongside important secondary-market works by Lynne Drexler and François-Xavier Lalanne, photographs by Harry Benson, and select works by twentieth-century modern masters.
A new rotation each week will bring together emerging, contemporary, and modern-classic works in an evolving exhibition experience.
The opening rotation pairs two generations of Belgian art, presenting Gommaar Gilliams’ large-scale, tactile dreamscapes alongside structural works by the late Roger Raveel. Together, the works trace a path from Raveel’s geometric deconstruction of everyday life to Gilliams’ lyrical contemporary vision.
The residency coincides with De Buck Gallery’s participation in The Armory Show’s Focus Sector, where the gallery will present work by Gommaar Gilliams. They will be located at Booth 141 September 24 – 27.

galerie burster presents a group exhibition in May 2026 at The Curator Lab in New York. The exhibition follows a project realized in 2025 within the framework of NADA East Broadway, in which the artists of the Berlin-based gallery were exhibited in New York and contributed to a broader engagement within contemporary art among the public. Building on this approach, the 2026 presentation is conceived as a continuation and further development of a dialogical exhibition format that fosters exchange between the Berlin and New York art scenes.
The Curator Lab provides an ideal framework for this initiative. As a collaboratively oriented exhibition space, it enables flexible and experimental formats while encouraging cooperation between galleries, curators, and artists. With this project, galerie burster continues its international orientation while reinforcing its commitment to supporting emerging artists. The exhibition functions as a platform for exchange, networking, and the further development of artistic positions in an international context.
